Samburu Safari with Chogoria Mt. Kenya Climb Combo

Overview Transfer from Nairobi to the Chogoria Gate on the eastern side of Mt Kenya, where your trekking adventure begins.

Morning Early pickup and drive to Chogoria town, then on to Chogoria Gate. Meet your mountain guide and porter team and complete park registration.

Afternoon Begin trekking through dense montane forest and bamboo zones, keeping an eye out for elephant and buffalo signs, before emerging into moorland.

Evening Arrive at the Bandas (or first camp), dinner, and overnight rest to begin acclimatizing to altitude.

Overview One of the most spectacular days on the mountain, tracing the rim of the Gorges Valley.

Morning Trek across open moorland with sweeping views over the Gorges Valley, one of the most photographed sections of the Chogoria Route.

Afternoon Continue climbing gradually toward Minto's Hut, passing giant lobelias, groundsel, and several glacial tarns.

Evening Arrive at Minto's Hut, dinner, and overnight at altitude, with dramatic views of Mt Kenya's peaks in the fading light.

Overview A built-in rest and acclimatization day at altitude before the summit push, following the "climb high, sleep low" principle to help your body adjust.

Morning Short, gentle acclimatization walk up toward Simba Tarn and the base of the peaks, taking in views of the glaciers and rock spires above.

Afternoon Return to Minto's Hut for a relaxed afternoon, resting, hydrating, and preparing gear for the summit attempt. Optional short walks nearby for those feeling strong.

Evening Early dinner and early rest, ready for a pre-dawn start the following morning.

Overview Summit day. An early start to reach Point Lenana for sunrise, followed by a long descent.

Morning Depart in the early hours to reach Point Lenana (4,985m) around sunrise, rewarded with panoramic views across the mountain and, on clear days, as far as the Great Rift Valley.

Afternoon Descend via the Naro Moru or Sirimon side (route dependent on your chosen itinerary) toward lower altitude for a safer, more comfortable overnight.

Evening Dinner and overnight at a lower camp or lodge, allowing your body to recover from the summit push.

Overview Final descent off the mountain, followed by a direct road transfer north to Samburu — bypassing Nairobi to save on travel time.

Morning Continue the descent back through moorland, bamboo, and forest zones toward Chogoria Gate.

Afternoon Sign out at the gate, say farewell to your mountain crew, and begin the direct drive north to Samburu National Reserve. Lunch en route.

Evening Arrive at Samburu in the late afternoon, with time to settle in before dinner. Depending on arrival time, an optional short evening game drive may be possible.

Overview A full day dedicated to exploring Samburu's varied habitats, from riverine forest to open scrubland.

Morning Late-morning start (a welcome rest after the climb and the previous day's transfer), followed by a game drive focusing on predator sightings and the Samburu Special Five.

Afternoon Relaxed lunch back at the lodge, followed by an afternoon game drive or optional visit to a local Samburu village to learn about the culture and traditions of the Samburu people.

Evening Sundowner game drive along the river, followed by dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp.

Overview One final wildlife drive before heading back south to Nairobi.

Morning Early morning game drive followed by breakfast and check-out.

Afternoon Scenic drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.

Evening Overnight in Nairobi, with the option of a farewell dinner to mark the end of the trip.
